It has a nice atmosphere to it, and the characters and story really draw you in as more things unfold in the plot. Actually, as someone who isn't really a huge horror fan, I've enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. The slice-of-life/horror genre whiplash is strong in this one. 4 of the rankings though (with GibeAl as my oshi-CP) so should be easy enough to find though. And anyway, it was made with fujoshis as a target market, not so much for hardcore furry fans, so it might not actually come off as being as weird as you might expect. I know it's probably a bit hard for a lot of people to get past the "omg furry game" thing, but really, give it a go. I've (obviously) been following it really closely ever since it was first announced, but it's blown away all my expectations. I'm not kidding when I say that of all the games I've played it's one of the ones I've ended up caring most deeply about the characters. Ok but actually though, it's a well-written story with good characters, lovely art, and a really deep and involving plot. In terms of heroine characterization, no other otoge holds a candle to Norn9.
I love how each heroine has a really distinctive character arc and backstory connected to their powers and it was nice seeing how their respective love interests brought out different sides of them. Every heroine was unique and loveable and switching between heroines while playing just kept the experience fresh and it really made the cast more dynamic, especially watching the girls interact with each other, as well as with boys outside their target group. I think this is what makes Norn9 unique compared to other otoges. I think the greatest strength of this game isn’t really the love interests more so having three fully fleshed out, fully voiced heroines, whom I loved all very dearly. and since the company that made it is fucking dead its 100% free! rad. theres also like a shit load of secret events that you need to monitor flags for so you might as well just save yourself the trouble and fudge the numbers a bit. that said i fully recommend opening up the debug menu and just slapping max affection on your chosen boy bc the low budget, slightly dated mechanics can be kind of a slog. its not an eroge but these characters absolutely fuck, which is nice if you want some self indulgent steamy stuff. it also isnt as tender and sweet as some of the other games i listed, it fully embodies the charm of alice in wonderland where nearly everyone is an oddball whackjob/asshole (and dont worry, the protagonist can throw a punch) and has an old fashioned affection point and date system which make it feel really old school. despite its humble routes it made a huge splash in japan and is definitely genre defining. is generous) but the fantranslation finally got finished like? last year? recentlyish. Anniversary no kuni no alice: so this ones pretty different in that its a doujin game that was never officially localized (ok, there was a mobile port that got released in the west but calling that a translation.
